By now you’re familiar with Mo’ne Davis, the 14-year-old pitcher who took the world by storm at the Little League World Series. Davis became the first girl to get a win and pitch a shutout in the event. She later appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
She’s a great gal, a great role model, yada, yada, yada. You can’t say enough good things about her. Which is why this tweet from Joey Casselberry, a baseball player at Bloomsburg University, raised so many eyebrows. Casselberry was irked because Davis landed a deal to star in a Disney Channel movie.
The tweet is so ridiculous and so asinine that it’s not worth discussing. Casselberry was booted off the team not long after. But now Mo’ne Davis is coming to his defense.
In an interview with SportsCenter, Davis said: “Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone deserves a second chance. I know he didn’t mean it in that type of way.”
Mo’ne pleaded with Bloomsburg University to reinstate Casselbery. She went to bat for someone who called her a “slut” on social media. Mo’ne Davis is wise beyond her 14 years. We can all learn something from her.
