Before the half during last night’s Heat-Spurs game, Mario Chalmers had a relatively open look from 53 feet away — so at least five feet beyond the mid-court line. The ball didn’t even touch the iron as it ripped the nylon going through the hoop and changing San Antonio’s 47-39 lead to 47-42.
Gregg Popovich followed the whole trajectory of the shot after it left Chalmers’ fingers, and Pop’s face when it drops is just one of many reasons he’s our favorite coach.

The Spurs ended up winning, 95-81, and Popovich may have cracked a smile in the locker room afterwards, but that’s just speculation on our part.
Here are a couple other reasons to love Pop, by way of the Express-News‘ estimable Jeff McDonald:

No coach, with the possible exception of Doc Rivers and Steve Kerr, brings us more joy. Cranky old farts are the best.
