Let’s Celebrate The Best Lines From ‘Major League’ On Its 26th Anniversary

The late 1980’s were a golden age for the production of baseball movies, with Eight Men Out, Bull Durham, and Field of Dreams each being released within nine months of each other. Smack dab in the middle of that run was another box office hit with a baseball theme, Major League, which celebrates its 26th anniversary on Tuesday.

To honor these rag-tag misfits’ stunning run to an AL East Championship, here are some of the best lines from arguably the best baseball movie Hollywood has to offer.

Let me hear you, Cleveland!

“Juuuuust a bit outside. He tried the corner and missed.”

“Let me think it over, will ‘ya, Charlie? I got a guy on the other line about some white walls.”

“This guy here is dead.”
“Cross him off, then.”

“That’s all we got, one goddamn hit?”
“You can’t say goddamn on the air.”
“Don’t worry, nobody’s listening anyway.”

“Come on, Dorn. Get in front of the damn ball! Don’t give me this olĂ© bullsh*t!”

“They got chili dogs over there?”
“Forget it, I’ll order.”

Of course, no list of outstanding Major League quotes would be complete without including the climactic scene in the movie when Roger Dorn approaches Rick Vaughn at the mound and says, “Let’s cut through the crap, Vaughn. I only got one thing to say to you. Strike this motherf*cker out!” However, rather than including the original clip with the curse word, let’s instead include the made-for-TV edited version because it is bar none the greatest dub in the history of dubs for television. It’s so long and drawn out and awkward. And the voice they used sounds nothing like Roger Dorn. Nothing.

Enjoy.
