The Emma Watson-lead Beauty and the Beast live-action film at Disney is gaining momentum. With the release date set for March 17, 2017, they’d better fill the cast out, no? Well according to Variety, the production has found its latest player:
After portraying a wizard and a mutant in two lucrative franchises, Ian McKellen’s next role will be a piece of furniture. The British thesp is set to play Cogsworth in Disney’s live-action retelling of “Beauty and the Beast,” starring Emma Watson, Variety can exclusively reveal.
Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad and Emma Thompson also star. Bill Condon is directing from a script written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and rewritten by Stephen Chbosky. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films are producing.
That’s right, folks. Sir Ian McKellen himself is going to portray the clock-formerly-known-as-a-person in Disney’s next revitalized classic. And you know what? GREAT!
Seriously, I think McKellen will have some fun with this. Then again, he’d have even more fun if they cast a certain someone as his partner in crime, Lumière.
