FX’s Fargo has cast the mob boss for its upcoming second season. It’s one of the three people in that banner image. Can you guess who?
Nope, not Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz, although that would have been (a) much bigger news and (b) maybe my favorite thing ever. Also, the headline of this post would have contained about six or eight giddy uncensored cuss words and I would have been fired 45 seconds after it posted. Guess again.
Nope, not documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, either, which is kind of a shame because I bet he would have made a good mob boss. There’s a quiet menace behind those eyes. But with Duritz and Burns both ruled out, that means…
Yup, Adam Arkin. From EW:
Arkin’s character is Hamish Broker. He’s officially described as a “mid-level manager in the Kansas City crime syndicate” (but is likely the highest-ranking member of the crime organization that we’ll actually see).
Arkin has also committed to directing the next installment’s penultimate episode and its season finale, i.e. episodes 9 and 10.
The astute among you will note that this is the third FX series that Arkin will act in and direct, following his work on Sons of Anarchy and Justified, both of which also saw him play a high-ish ranking underworld figure. The man has a niche. It’s only a matter of time until he pops up on The Americans as a Russian crime boss. Although I hear Duritz is up for that one, too. Fingers crossed.
