If you travel often, it’s likely you know about the godsend that is Airbnb. The site allows travelers to book rooms, homes, apartments and guesthouses in cities all around the world, often for prices cheaper than hotels. Not only does Airbnb offer lodging at reasonable prices, but you also get unique opportunities like the one offered by a user named Brandon from Los Angeles.
Brandon just so happens to live in a rock monument, an apartment that used to house none other than the legendary Kurt Cobain. According to Brandon, the Nirvana frontman lived in the two-bedroom apartment from 1991 to 1992 and even wrote one of the band’s classic songs in the bathtub.
Welcome to my spacious two-bedroom apartment. We have a large living room with seating for you and all your friends, a dining area suitable for meals big and small, and fully stocked kitchen.
The place is the perfect combination of comfort, style, location and…rock n’ roll history.
First about the Rock History: Yes, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love lived in the home during the height of Nirvana’s musical influence 91-92 to be specific. At the time, Kurt was focused on song writing and his artwork, much of which was created in the apartment. He was particularly into painting during this time and even decorated the walls in the living room and bedroom. His favorite spot in the house: the bathtub. In it, he wrote the song “Heart-Shaped Box.”
The location has been immortalized in books and across the web. I can provide many more pictures from SPIN magazines recent spread on the place.
If you’re headed to L.A. anytime soon, you can book the room, not the entire apartment, on Airbnb here for the low price of $290 a night. Remember, the Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck is in some theaters now, with an HBO premiere date of May 4.
