The Baltimore Riots Have Destroyed The Store That Omar Was Shot In On ‘The Wire’

Omar Little is one of the greatest characters in modern TV history. With a loaded shotgun and a “Robin Hood” mentality, Little would whistle as he strolled to a stash house to rob drug dealers of their cache. Like a character from a western, Omar was badass and made no apologies for his actions; it’s why he was possibly the most beloved element of HBO’s The Wire. But, just like Omar and the TV series, all good things must come to an end, as the store where Omar was fatally shot has been destroyed in the Baltimore riots.

The small bodega saw Omar Little shot by a young gunman, but it was a fitting end to the character who lived life on the razor’s edge. As for the corner store, it’s been wrecked following the riots sparked by the death of Freddie Gray. David Simon, creator of The Wire, wrote a blog on his site asking for the violence to cease:

But now — in this moment — the anger and the selfishness and the brutality of those claiming the right to violence in Freddie Gray’s name needs to cease.  There was real power and potential in the peaceful protests that spoke in Mr. Gray’s name initially, and there was real unity at his homegoing today.  But this, now, in the streets, is an affront to that man’s memory and a dimunition of the absolute moral lesson that underlies his unnecessary death.

Stars of the TV series have been weighing in on Twitter. Wendell Pierce, who played Bunk, had this to say about the violence in Baltimore:
