The Daily Show said goodbye last night to the longest-running correspondent ever, Samantha Bee. She joined The Daily Show in 2003, and her departure is on the heels of husband and fellow correspondent Jason Jones, who said his goodbye about a month ago. Both Jones and Bee are developing a family comedy for TBS, as well as a new satirical current events series that Bee will be hosting.
To send off the great Samantha Bee, Jon Stewart played a reel of some of her greatest hits over the past 12-plus years, before bringing out Bee herself, who was too emotional to do anything other than hold back tears and wave goodbye to the audience. It’s difficult not to get choked up yourself while watching it, and a bittersweet reminder that Stewart’s impending departure isn’t the only loss we’ll be experiencing as The Daily Show soldiers forward.
On a final note, The Daily Show also dedicated the Moment of Zen to Samantha Bee:
