Last month, we brought you M-1 Medieval, a weird hybrid of MMA and full-armor knights fighting each other, proudly presented by Russia. Now, we have Battle of Nations, from the Czech Republic, which is similar to M-1 Medieval, but better because it is a team sportĀ Battle of Nations is a four day tournament where various countries field groups of five medieval warriors to do battle in three-round fights.

To say the fights got insane very quickly is a tremendous understatement. While the swords are blunted, there were still plenty of cringe-inducing moments, like the shield KO above, courtesy of team Russia. Not surprisingly, Russia is one of the best teams at Battle of Nations, possibly because Putin offered up fantastic prizes for victory.

Despite not having any sort of medieval tradition, countries like Australia seemed to do well, and if this guy is any indication, it’s a all thanks to sweet, sweet coke.

The last fight of the day was between Ukraine and Mexico, and as the sun set on the evening, no artificial lights were provided. I can understand not wanting lamps to maintain authenticity, but it’s a little odd that torches weren’t lit. As the fight came to a close, Ukraine landed a big shield KO.

With the fight coming down to just one guy for Team Mexico and one for Team Ukraine, it turned into a recreation of Mark Hunt versus Ray Sefo, with both combatants trading single blows back and forth.
Battle of Nations continues through May 10, so there’s bound to be more awesome moments coming up.
