Your Visual Guide To The Maniacs Of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’

Mad Max: Fury Road has been building buzz for months now, and, judging from the reviews, it looks like all that hype might be worth it. (Something that way too many summer movies fail to even come close to achieving.) While you probably already know that Tom Hardy plays “Mad” Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron plays ass-kicking Imperator Furiosa, what about the rest of the cast who’s driving around the desert wasteland like demolition derby psychopaths?

Here’s a who’s-who guide to where you’ve seen the cast of Mad Max: Fury Road before…

Hugh Keays-Byrne as King Immortan Joe

The character: The main bad dude and leader of the War Boys, Immortan Joe wears a creepy mask with bolted on horse teeth and is the father of Rictus Erectus.

The actor: Australian actor Hugh Keays-Byrne has been acting since the 1960s. If he looks familiar, that’s because appeared in the original Mad Max as Toecutter. He’s worked mostly in Australian film, but he might be recognizable to sci-fi fans from his appearances on the cult TV show Farscape.

Courtney Eaton as Cheedo the Fragile

The character: So, Immortan Joe has a harem of five wives or “breeders,” and Cheedo is the youngest. Being that she’s the youngin of the group, she’s protected by the rest of the wives and shielded from the violence around them, hence the moniker “the fragile.”

The actor: Aussie actress Courtney Eaton is making her acting debut in Fury Road, but can be seen later this year in Gods of Egypt with Gerard Butler.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as the Splendid Angharad

The character: The favorite of Immortan Joe’s five wives, Splendid is pregnant with the warlord’s child.

The actor: Supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley only has one acting credit besides Mad Max under her belt, but it’s a doozie… Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon. Besides walking the runway, the British model has been Jason Statham’s main squeeze for the past five years.

Riley Keough as Capable

The character: Splendid’s closest confidant, Capable follows Splendid wherever she goes, even when it puts them in danger’s path.

The actor: Actress Riley Keough’s earliest acting credit was in the rock biopic The Runaways, where she played ’70s teen rocker Marie Currie. Since then, she’s landed roles in Magic Mike and the vampire horror Kiss of the Damned.

Richard Carter as the Bullet Farmer

The character: The Bullet Farmer controls valuable resources in the Wasteland (bullets, probably) and drives a behemoth of a war machine that’s part 1970’s Valiant and part Ripsaw Tank nicknamed “the peacemaker.”

The actor: With a long career dating back to the early 1980s, Richard Carter has worked in many Australian TV shows and movies, but might be most recognizable to American audiences for his role in the 2013 remake of The Great Gatsby.

Nicholas Hoult as Nux

The character: One of the central War Boys, Nux is one of Immortan Joe’s deathly sick drivers who wants nothing more than to go out with a bang.

The actor: British actor Nicholas Holt is probably best known for portraying Beast in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but he caught his first break more than a decade ago, acting alongside Hugh Grant in About a Boy.

Nathan Jones as Prince Rictus Erectus

The character: Not much is known about the intimidating Rictus, but he’s believed to be the Immortan’s son. Being that his name translates to “mouth/jaws upright,” he might wear that unusual jaw strap because of some deformity.

The actor: Prior to clobbering dudes in movies like Conan the Barbarian and Troy, Nathan Jones was a competitor in strongman competitions across the globe. At 6-foot-11 and 360 pounds, the guy can pull a car or drag an anchor like it’s nothing.

Josh Helman as Slit

The character: One of the Immortan’s War Boys, Slit is a ruthless criminal obsessed with knives and willing to do anything for his leader.

The actor: Just like his War Boy costar, Josh Helman was also in X-Men: Days of Future Past, where he played Major William Stryker. Previous to battling mutants, Helman appeared in the 2010 HBO mini-series The Pacific.

Abbey Lee as the Dag

The character: Another of the Immortan’s harem of wives, the Dag, as described by actress Abbey Lee, attempts to cope with her bleak life through humor.

The actor: Aussie model Abbey Lee is making her film debut in Mad Max, but, like her costar Courtney Eaton, will later appear in the movie Gods of Egypt.

Megan Gale as Valkyrie

The character: Part of Imperator Furiosa’s (Charlize Theron) clan, Valkyrie is the youngest of the group and uses her perceived innocence to lure people in.

The actor: Best known as a runway model and executive producer of Australia’s version of Project Runway, Gale appeared with Russell Crowe in The Water Diviner.

Zoë Kravitz as Toast, the Knowing

The character: She’s a tough girl who’s a bit of a loaner, and she’s been hardened by her abuse. She has a “kill or be killed attitude,” according to Zoë Kravitz.

The actor: Zoë Kravitz is probably best known for being the offspring of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, but she’s steadily been building a name for herself over the last few years. Her first real break came with a recurring role on Californication, but has since had parts in X-Men: First Class and last year’s Divergent.

iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior

The character: An apocalyptic warlord like Immortan Joe needs a battle call to let others know he’s coming, and that’s the job of Coma-Doof Warrior, a terrifying rock star.

The actor: iOTA is primarily known in Australia as being part of the underground music scene. Prior to joining Fury Road, he acted in stage productions of Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hedwig and the Angry Itch.
