It’s nowhere near as good as the Love Actually sketch SNL cut back in December, but Sam Smith’s acceptance speech at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday is one for the books. The English singer and songwriter took home the award for Top Male Artist, beating out the likes of Drake, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Timberlake.
He wasn’t able to attend the program since, according to presenter Celine Dion, Smith was “recovering from vocal surgery” in New York. So instead of triumphantly taking the stage and giving thanks aurally, he spoofed that scene from Love Actually to commend Billboard, the other nominees, and anyone else whose name would fit.
