CBS is definitely moving forward with their Rush Hour TV series. Earlier this year, The Eye officially ordered a pilot for the series. Now, the newest detail finds Steve Franks — the creator of USA’s Psych — on board as the showrunner for the program’s first season.
Franks will be joining Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town) on the production of the series THR is describing as “a drama.”:
Rush Hour, produced by Warner Bros. Television, is based on the New Line feature film trilogy of the same name. The series revolves around a stoic, by-the-book Hong Kong police officer (Jon Foo) who is assigned to a case in Los Angeles, where he’s forced to work with a cocky African-American LAPD officer (Justin Hires, 21 Jump Street) who has no interest in a partner.
After wrapping on Psych, Franks moved on to write the pilot for that Rivers Cuomo themed comedy, Detour, which Fox ended up passing on. Teaming up with Bill Lawrence on the project may make this actually watchable although, I’m not quite sure how a Rush Hour TV series would work as a drama given the talent attached and the original subject matter they’re pulling from.
