NEW YORK — The first half of the 2015 NBA All-Star Game had most of us in attendance GEEKED about RUSSELL WESTBROOK. The tempestuous Thunder guard dropped an NBA record 27 points in just 11:21 minutes of action during the first half.
The old record was shared by Kyrie Irving (2014) and Glen Rice (1997), who both scored 24. But Russ — 11-for-15 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc with no assists — had a lot of fun on his way to the record.
There was the dunk above, where the rim almost rejected him.
Then this backwards lay-in after Chris Paul tossed him the oop three-fourths the length of the court.
Russ also banged a two-handed dunk attempt off the back of the iron because he’s just too amped to actually get it in the cylinder.
Westbrook started the second quarter off with back-to-back-to-back three-pointers, like his teammate did in a regular season game recently. Feeling it at that point, Russ decided to pull up right after he crossed the half-court line.
