Ever since adidas launched the latest signature shoe in the Derrick Rose line, they’ve continued to update the D Rose 5 Boost with new colorways. Some were one-offs, like the teal “The Lake” sold overseas. Others, like the “Home” and “Alternate Away,” Rose will rock himself on the hardwood this season. The two newest colorways coming later this month are perhaps hist most unique and personal yet.
Rose’s current home with the Chicago Bulls is a continuation of the Inglewood section in South Chicago where he grew. That’s why the city has always been used as inspiration for his signature kicks. Never is this more apparent then with the two newest colorways from adidas.
The “Chicago Ice” is a nod to the frigid winters along Lake Michigan for Chicago denizens. The upper is embossed with a satellite print of Chicago, which was originally included on the D Rose 2.5. An ice blue outsole contrasts nicely with the white details, and you can almost see the vapor of a Chicagoan’s breath emanating from their mouth on a chill December morning.
The “Woven Blues” colorway is an homage to the early 20th century diaspora of African-Americans heading north to seek better jobs in the industrial hubs like Chicago. During this exodus to escape the Jim Crow south that was still heavily segregated, southern blues came along with the migratory families. The Chicago style of these transplanted urban blues is the theme for the “Woven Blues.” A unique basket weave adorns the upper in a deep navy blue. It’s accented by a bright orange lining and the ubiquitous D Rose logo on the back.
“Chicago Ice” D Rose 5 Boost launches at adidas.com and Foot Locker on November 24 while “Woven Blues” will be available November 26.
