Andre Drummond isn’t the league’s best rim-protector, but that hardly means he’s not effective. Think of turning the corner around a screen to see a 6’11, 280-pound behemoth below the cup, a player who can run, jump, and slide like a guard. Scary.
But LeBron James is a different animal even compared to the Detroit Pistons’ rising star. Just how does the four-time MVP possibly make this finish look so easy? Not only is James’ shot extremely difficult because it comes from his left hand as he glides through the air, but also because Drummond completely obscures his view of the rim.
Unbelievable.
The Cavaliers lead the Pistons 56-55 at halftime. In the first game since he publicly lamented his veteran team’s lackluster effort, James has 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. And that, in a way, is the scariest thing about the future Hall of Famer’s performance early in 2015-16.
James has been his typically excellent self over the first few weeks of the season, but has yet to find the range from beyond the arc. Is it possible he’ll continue struggling as the years wears on? Perhaps. What seems far more likely, though, is the 30-year-old reverting back to at least his career norms as a three-point shooter.
Is this the night that process begins? Stay tuned.
