It’s no secret that Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most hilarious and colorful characters in the NBA. And now, NBA TV’s Grant Hill gives us another reason to love Superman. In a series titled “Open Court” on NBA TV, Hill discusses the funniest teammate he ever had, Shaq. Hill played with O’Neal on the Phoenix Suns during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. More importantly, though, Hill tells a story about how Shaq once choked out fellow teammate Gordan Giricek.
“After the pre-game meeting, you know I go in the bathroom, I come out, and Gordan Giricek is laid out on the floor! And like, the trainers are trying to wake him up. Shaq choked him out! Eighteen minutes left on the clock, we’re getting ready to go out to play, and Shaq put him in a sleeper hold because he was talking too much, he was talking trash to Shaq.”
I really, really wish there was some video proof of this, but the story alone sounds hilarious. Hill goes on to say that Shaq defended his actions by saying he told Giricek to not mess with him. Pure gold.
