The Washington Wizards are on the fringe of playoff contention. Fans know that a championship likely isn’t in the cards this season, so what else is there to keep them happy and coming to games?
Well, free Chick-fil-A, for starters.
During the Wizards’ 98-86 home win against the Detroit Pistons on Friday, fans not only enjoyed a victory on the court but also won a free chicken sandwich. You see, when someone on the opposing team misses two free throws during the fourth quarter, all fans in attendance receive a coupon for a free chicken sandwich from Chick-fil-A. With 23 seconds to play and the win secured, the Pistons’ Aron Baynes missed two free throws and sent the fans into a frenzy.
Wizards guard John Wall jokingly said afterward, “They’re more excited for a free chicken sandwich than a win. That’s what it looked like.”
There’s a hint of truth in almost every joke.
Besides, fans today are getting smarter. Some are hopping on board when their favorite team decides to tank a season. Others know winning in fantasy sports and getting a check for your accomplishments is better than seeing strangers win a game.
And Wizards fans know a chicken sandwich is better than being an eight seed. Good for them.
