Former Motor City pariah Josh Smith is in the middle of a professional Renaissance. He’s been instrumental in helping the Houston Rockets seize control of their opening-round series against the Dallas Mavericks, and the evolving on-court chemistry between he and former AAU running mate Dwight Howard has been played a big part in that.
J-Smoove and D-12 have been gluttonously feasting on the Mavs’ pick-and-roll defense so far this series, and they were at it again tonight early on with this positively effortless play that Dallas was once again helpless to defend despite seeing it coming from a mile away.
We saw some foreshadowing of this back in March when the two destroyed the Minnesota Timberwolves on consecutive possessions running virtually the same play.
The Rockets look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead tonight, although they are currently trailing the Mavs 74-65 early in the third quarter.
