LaMelo Ball might not be a lot of fun to play basketball with and his full range out of outcomes was on display over the weekend. During an AAU event, Ball put together a lowlight reel that made the rounds after his Big Ballers AAU team lost by a 52-point margin. That did not end the weekend for LaMelo and his father/head coach, LaVar, as they reportedly dropped a close-fought battle in an early game on Sunday and faced one final challenge on Sunday evening.
This time, things went better.
As you can see above, LaMelo went for 50 points in what would become a 94-90 loss and, obviously, he was much better. The decisive loss to the Compton Magic featured the rising junior guard taking wild shots that didn’t come close, committing ugly turnovers and generally playing unwatchable basketball.
Sunday evening’s performance, though, was closer to the 92-point performance he put together during the high school season at Chino Hills. It has to be noted that there was nothing exceedingly “natural” about the way Ball racked up points in the high school setting but this AAU performance seemed to be a truer one based on the highlights available and it will be a good plug for LaVar’s next television stint.
