Referees ruin everything.
Nerlens Noel absolutely swallows Jordan Hill’s dunk attempt here. This should be a signature moment of the Philadelphia 76ers rookie’s stellar second half of the 2014-2015 season.
But this officiating crew – like all of them, actually – hates fun, so called the 20 year-old for a foul instead of letting his swat stand in all its unblemished glory. There might be a case that Noel slightly pushed off on Hill’s midsection with his left arm. The baseline referee doesn’t have the proper vantage point to make that call, though, but did so anyway.
See? Officials are the worst.
And unfortunately, this unjustice came in a last second, overtime Philadelphia loss. After Noel kept the Sixers alive by scoring six quick points late in the extra session to tie the game, Wayne Ellington – playing with a heavy heart in his hometown – found Jordan Clarkson with a bullet pass under the basket for a game-winning layup as the clock read .7 seconds.
Los Angeles emerged victorious, 113-111. Noel collected 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and one official block – but had another that we’ll remember for a long, long time.
