Steph Curry is the league’s MVP favorite following a historic and awe-inspiring regular season. If his record shooting exhibition is any indication, though, the Golden State Warriors superstar still might have something extra left in the tank for the playoffs.
At Golden State practice today in advance of its season finale against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night, Curry made a mind-boggling 77 consecutive three-pointers. Again: Steph Curry drained 77 straight treys at the Warriors’ Tuesday practice.
ESPN has the details behind the 27 year-old’s Herculean shooting feat.
The Golden State Warriors guard and owner of the NBA single-season 3-point record connected on 77 straight 3s in Tuesday’s practice.
Curry rotated around the perimeter, taking 10 shots from several spots.
Curry told ESPN the 77 represents the most he’s ever made in a row. Out of 100 shots taken during the session, he made 94.
Curry broke his own record for three-pointers made in a season last week. He’s connected on 284 of his 642 attempts from beyond the arc in 2014-2015, good for a percentage of 44.2 – basketball’s fourth-best mark.
But even that unmatched combination of quantity and quality doesn’t do Curry’s mesmerizing long-range performance justice. He’s made a league-best 51.7 percent of his three-pointers since the All-Star break despite trying 52 more than any player in basketball. Related: Curry is averaging 24.5 points per game with a true shooting percentage of 67.4 over that timeframe.
Are those incredible statistics more impressive than 77 consecutive makes in practice? That it’s at all debatable speaks not only of his unmatched shot-making ability, but also just how worthy a winner Curry would be of the MVP award.
