It looks like all the scrutiny and fanfare related to Klay Thompson’s concussion will ultimately, and thankfully, prove a footnote to these NBA Finals. According to Golden State Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, the sharpshooter is recovering well and should be ready to play in Thursday’s Game 1 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thompson originally suffered the injury in his team’s series-clinching victory over the Houston Rockets last Wednesday after taking a knee to the temple from Trevor Ariza. Though team medical personnel initially assumed it to be a minor contusion, the 25 year-old later exhibited symptoms of a concussion immediately after the game and in the subsequent days.
Golden State officially announced that Thompson’s diagnosis had been upgraded to a concussion on Friday, putting his status in doubt for the Finals.
Though Kerr’s assurance is hardly definitive proof of the star shooting guard’s eventual status, it’s encouraging nonetheless. He’s not only notoriously thoughtful with the media, but also wouldn’t further compromise the Warriors’ handling of the situation if not confident in Thompson’s recovery.
Assuming he’s able to play, the question now becomes if Thompson will be his normally stellar self come tip-off of the season’s main event. We’ll find out soon enough.
