Sadly, the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas is no more. NBA players won’t do anything resembling real basketball on TV until preseason starts in October. That’s… (checks calendar) three months away! Oh God. Don’t think about it. Just watch NBA TV’s compilation of the ten best plays of Summer League, mostly filled with the league champion Spurs. Jonathan Simmons shows up twice on this list, representative of the show he put on in Vegas. It even got him a guaranteed contract with the real Spurs, the first for the 25-year-old who spent the last two seasons with the Spurs’ D-League affiliate.
The clips are, of course, mostly dunks, but here’s a special shoutout to Ryan Boatright, the poor man’s Shabazz Napier (who is the poor man’s Kemba Walker), with the incredible spin-move-to-floater to tie a game in the closing seconds.
Short guys outwitting big guys is one of the best parts of basketball.
