Trevor Booker is good for more than just mind-boggling trick shots and equally head-scratching preseason skirmishes. Late in the first quarter Friday night, the Jazz forward got free for a massive left-handed jam against the Sixers. As impressive as that was, it was his only two points of the game as he was just 1-of-5 from the field in just under 18 minutes of action.
Utah showed no mercy to a lowly Philadelphia team as they held them to just 53 points heading into the fourth quarter. That was thanks in part to a 13-0 Jazz run to start the third quarter. They held the Sixers without a field goal for nearly the first seven minutes of that period. Derrick Favors led the way for Utah with 20 points, 12 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Rudy Gobert chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds and was dominant on the defensive end with six blocks. He was a team-high plus-34 for the game.
After an eye-popping outing in his NBA debut, Jahlil Okafor came back down to Earth for the Sixers with 10 points on just 4-of-12 shooting from the floor and was a game-worst minus-35 in just over 36 minutes of action. He was one of five Philadelphia players to post double figures in scoring, despite losing 99-71 to start the season 0-2.
