Hasbro is arguably rivaled only by Marvel these days as the master of turning their products into movies. Transformers, G.I. Joe, Battleship, Ouija… OK, nobody’s loved the movies, but they’ve been making money hand over fist. So, Hasbro might be bringing back the Gobots, since we don’t have enough transforming robot movies.
As found by Transformer World, Hasbro has applied for trademarks on the Gobots for both toys and filmed entertainment. If you need a reminder, here are the Gobots:
…Wait, why do they turn into vehicles if they fly in robot form?
Anyway, yes, potentially we could be seeing a Gobots movie. Or maybe a live Gobots TV series! Or Hasbro is just locking down the Gobots so nobody tries to horn in on their crappy-changing-robot-movie racket. As for reissuing the toys, it’s a possibility; the rights exist in a weird limbo where Hasbro owns the names, bios, and storylines, but the actual toy designs are owned by Bandai. So it might take a little more work to issue overpriced versions of the cheap toys you remember, but if you really want to make it happen, Hasbro will probably oblige you. In fact, they should. Did you see Ouija? They owe us.
