The search for a new Spider-Man continues and Marvel is still reportedly bringing in more actors to take the plunge and show their skills as the next Peter Parker. Up to this point we’ve had short lists, we’ve had frontrunners, we’ve had Asa Butterfield, and now we’re back to having four more actors screen testing for the role in Atlanta.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland and Butterfield are still in the conversation and have been joined by four new faces to screen test and battle for the role:
The other four hopefuls included: Judah Lewis (a relative newbie who will be seen in the Jean Marc-Vallee’s fall drama Demolition), Matthew Lintz (who will be seen with Adam Sandler in this summer’s Pixels), Charlie Plummer (who had a recurring gig on Boardwalk Empire) and Charlie Rowe (a British actor who appeared on Fox’s short-lived Red Band Society).
THR adds that the reports around Butterfield already having the role were false (what a shock), but he hasn’t been ruled out completely. The same can’t be said about previous contenders Timothee Chalamet, Liam James, and Nat Wolff.
All of the actors were flown to Atlanta to test on the set of Captain America: Civil War by Marvel and the company will reportedly make their decision by the early part of the week. I’m not sure how much I believe that at this point, but the fact that time is short lends a bit more credence to this rumor than anything prior.
The absence of Tyler James Williams firmly puts to rest any hopes he might’ve had to play the hero for now, but perhaps he could play an older Miles Morales in some sort of movie swerve in the future. Doubtful, but you never know what could happen after Infinity War.
