The last time we heard anything about Men In Black, there were talks about a possible crossover with the 21 Jump Street franchise with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. There’s no word on when that’s happening, but things might’ve just gotten a little easier to fit it in with the Men In Black series. That’s because the franchise is getting one of those lovely reboots, bringing the story back to zero and giving a fresh look at the people who protect us from the aliens we shouldn’t know are all around us.
The big news here is that Will Smith is not going to be involved — at least not according to Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald in their recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter:
You produced Men in Black. Has there been talk of reviving that franchise with the new Sony regime?
PARKES: We’re in the middle of it. It’s very active.
Is Will Smith going to be part of it?
PARKES: Most likely no.
MACDONALD: It will be reinvented as a trilogy.
Reinvented as a trilogy, without Will Smith, and likely with someone like Kevin Hart. I tossed that last part in there because I feel like I could be a Hollywood executive and I’m trying to audition for it. That’s the only way I’m ever going to help Danger get most of his movie ideas made.
I’m not sure if a new Men In Black series is a good idea, but the success of Jurassic World ensures that we will see a bunch of these types of ideas in the next few years.
