Pacific Rim 2 is the movie that nobody seems to know the status of. Is it dead at the hands of Godzilla? Is it alive? Will it return from the grave and feast on the brains of other movies? Nobody knows, but if the latest news is any indication, it’s not looking good.
ScreenRant has an update about the movie: Legendary Pictures, the independent financing company behind the franchise, has just announced it’s delayed. Unfortunately, this delay doesn’t come with any sort of release date attached to it; it’s not delayed to 2018 or 2019, it’s just delayed, period.
Adding to the problem, the always-busy Guillermo del Toro has announced he’s working on a tiny black-and-white movie, although that’s been in the works for a while. Unfortunately, as Hellboy fans know all too well, it can be hard to get del Toro’s attention back once you lose it. Combine a distracted del Toro with a lack of interest from Legendary, and you’ve got a movie that may not be out for a long, long time.
That said, one hopes Legendary notices the sheer amount of fan love for this franchise and focuses on making it happen. Michael Bay has the crappy giant robot movie thing all sewn up, guys. We need better giant robot movies.
