The production for the new Resident Evil movie had a few setbacks before finally getting off the ground in South Africa last month. And even though Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller had returned to reprise the roles of Claire and Chris Redfield and everything seemed to be going according to plan tragedy struck the set only a few weeks into shooting.
Professional stuntwoman Olivia Jackson, who recently worked on big budget movies Mad Max: Fury Road and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, sustained a serious injury on set which put her in a temporary coma. Her role as Milla Jovovich’s stunt double on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter came to a halt on September 5th in an accident that — according to the list of injuries sustained — sounds absolutely terrifying.
Jovovich shared the news on her Facebook page a few weeks ago, and it thoroughly paints the severity of the situation:
According to Life is Savage, Jackson is out of the coma and shared the details of her ordeal, which is an awful sounding laundry list of pain:
- 2 weeks in a coma with a bleeding and swollen brain.
- Severed the main artery in her neck.
- Crushed and “degloved” face. (Look that up at your own risk.)
- Broken ribs.
- Shattered Scapula.
- Broken Clavicle.
- Broken Humerus.
- Broken Radius & Ulna.
- Amputated thumb.
- Torn fingers.
- Five nerves torn from her spinal cord.
Well, that sounds completely awful and I can’t help but be amazed at her resolve. Thankfully, Jackson is already recovering from her near death experience. Here’s hoping she’s back on her feet soon.
