Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens this Friday (review here), and it’s already breaking records on Fandango as their top-selling superhero movie ever, selling more tickets than prior record holders The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Which makes this as good a time as any to hearken back to that time when Ben Affleck played Superman. Well, he sort of played Superman, in a matter of speaking.
Ten years ago, Affleck played George Reeves — the star of ’50s TV series Adventures of Superman — in crime drama Hollywoodland. This leads to plenty of scenes of Ben Affleck in a Superman suit, swilling booze and asking people if they can see his penis in those tights. It was a classier time, I’ve heard.
Todd Spence noticed the potential here, and combined Hollywoodland‘s super Affleck with Batman V Superman‘s Batfleck, bringing us the much-needed Affleck V Affleck version of Dawn of Justice. Whoever wins, we lose, or something like that.
There are also some nice little touches like the “written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck” credit at the end. But, really, this had me at Ben Affleck dressed as Superman wearing sunglasses and taking belts from a flask. Drunk Superman is the best Superman.
