It seems strange that a movie which has now grossed nearly $300 million domestically and $800 million worldwide can keep getting met with such lousy news. Such is life when that movie is the lumbering behemoth known as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie that is meant to be the cultural meeting of a lifetime.
From the crappy reviews to the calls for director Zack Snyder to quit before he screws up Justice League the same way he first screwed up Superman and has now screwed up Batman too, this movie can’t seem to catch a break despite raking in the cash. Now, a financial analyst is telling Bloomberg that even though the movie features three, count ’em three DC Comics icons, it still doesn’t look to be as profitable for Warner Bros. as Man of Steel, which, as you may or may not have noticed, featured just one.
Wade Holden, an analyst with SNL Kagan, projects that Batman v Superman will end up roughly $278 million in the black for the studio “once home video, TV and merchandise proceeds are tallied.” Man of Steel made a $300 million profit for Warner. Holden estimates that in order for Batman v Superman to wind up as profitable for the studio as Man of Steel was, it will have to finish with a total worldwide gross of $1.15 billion.
Look, the Justice League movies are happening whether Batman v Superman catches Man of Steel in profitability or not. So the best advice you can probably follow at this point is to simply skip Batman v Superman if you’ve not already gone. You’ll thank us for the tip.
