Captain America: Civil War might have managed to trick us. To this point, they’ve made it seem like it’s all about Cap and Bucky, and how Cap’s protecting his buddy. It was a noble, but weird plotline, because Bucky was a brainwashed assassin and all. But, it turns out, it might not be Bucky the Avengers ultimately go to war over.
The new featurette above, focusing on the three major female characters, is packed full of new stuff. For example, it turns out this:
…is Black Widow taking down a bunch of HYDRA thugs before going up against Crossbones?
We also get to see Sharon Carter going up against Bucky and holding her own, for the most part. But the most interesting moment is Elizabeth Olsen’s interview. One of the key things we see in the trailer is a massive explosion at an office building of some sort, one that causes enormous damage and would appear to have T’Challa, the Black Panther, caught in the ensuing chaos. Olsen talks about how Wanda is afraid of her powers, about how they’re unpredictable, and then we see this:
It could just be clever editing, of course, but this would seem to indicate something goes horribly awry with her powers, which nobody really grasps and even Marvel seems pretty vague on. It would also mean Black Panther has a sensible motivation to get involved with all this. After all, even if she trashes a chunk of Wakanda by accident, he’s still the ruler and she’s still accountable. We’ll find out if we’re right May 6.
