The return of The X-Files has been such a success that Fox executives badly want to believe even more episodes can be a reality. The six-episode X-Files miniseries hasn’t been a universal critical darling by any means, but the show’s been a ratings smash, breaking records around he world. In an interview with Variety, Fox Entertainment president David Madden was enthusiastic about bringing the show back for another round…
“We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging. We haven’t talked to the talent yet about Season 2 in any more definitive way than we had prior to airing the show, but certainly, it seems like there’s an audience responding to the show that would love to see more episodes.”
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are busy people, but it seems hard to believe Fox won’t be able to lure the dynamic monster-busting duo back. This season of The X-Files was a gamble, and nobody was sure how well it would do. Now that Fox knows they have a hit on their hands, they’ll probably be willing to plump Anderson and Duchovny’s checks up a bit to convince them to return. For his part, Duchovny has said he’d be willing to do more episodes, and I imagine Gillian Anderson would be, too, as long as they don’t try and pull that “paying her half as much as her co-star” nonsense again.
How did you enjoy The X-Files‘ all-too-brief return? What would you want to see from another mini-season? Nerd out below, ’90s kids.
