George Miller may be trying to drive us all mad. Recently, Miller dealt a painful blow to those of us who enjoy all things shiny and chrome, when he said Mad Max: Fury Road would be the last movie he directed in the series. Or at least that’s what somebody quoted him as saying.
Following the news that Mad Max: Fury Road has been nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, Miller is clarifying his position on the series. According to Miller, his previous quote was the result of exhaustion and was further scrambled by the interviewer.
“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet. She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another Mad Max] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max. It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.”
Okay, we can all exhale now. It may not happen immediately, but more Miller-directed Mad Max is on the way. Considering how well the forever-in-development Fury Road turned out, I’m willing to wait.
