Many were very upset with the news that Netflix was unable to negotiate a deal with the BBC, including a friend of mine, who watches Doctors Who from past and present as a major part of her daily workout routine.
But she and other anglophiles can rejoice with this latest bit of news from Variety. The reports of your favorite BBC shows leaving Netflix have been greatly exaggerated. So says a Netflix spokeswoman, with a list of the programs still available for streaming indefinitely. It includes classic Doctor Who and the current forms:
- Classic Doctor Who
- Doctor Who seasons 1 through 7
- Copper seasons 1 and 2
- House of Cards trilogy
- Keeping Up Appearances season 1
- Luther seasons 1 through 3
- Monarch of the Glen seasons 1 through 6
- North & South
- Robin Hood seasons 1 through 3
- The Buccaneers
- The Office U.K. seasons 1 and 2
- Top Gear seasons 17 though 20
- Torchwood seasons 1 through 4
- Wallander seasons 1 through 3
Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, MI-5 and Red Dwarf will all still be exiting the streaming service on February 1st. Sherlock was never in danger of being dropped by Netflix, and thus remains.
If my mother-in-law knew what Netflix was, she’d be hella jacked that Keeping Up Appearances survived the cut. Also, if for some reason you’re in the mood to watch a Jane Austen movie, except you don’t want to watch an actual Jane Austen movie, check out North & South.
