It’s not bulletproof, of course, but it appears that Robert Downey Jr. is going official with his desire for an Iron Man 4. Up above is a brief clip from today’s episode of Ellen sourced by ComingSoon, where Downey first says discussions are ongoing and then, essentially, says that’s the goal of negotiations.
The man who is Tony Stark has been dropping hints about this off and on, including his preferred choice of director, but this is the first confirmation from anybody that the franchise isn’t wrapping up. The third movie ended on what felt a bit like a franchise conclusion.
On the other hand, the third movie also raked in $1.2 billion worldwide, which is generally the kind of return on investment you keep paying for. So, yeah, apparently Marvel is going to swallow what it costs, namely $50 million, to keep Tony around. But the rest of the Avengers probably shouldn’t count on that.
