David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy would have loved to join the rest of the original cast in the new film. Unfortunately, there’s a major problem for the veteran actor: he suffers from dementia. Because of that, he fears that his condition would cause him to forget his lines. From The Daily Mirror:
The 79-year-old, who starred in the movies alongside Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, added: “It wouldn’t have mattered what it was, I would have loved to have done something in it – even if it was just a cameo.”
Surrounded by his Star Wars memorabilia, he said: “Sometimes I can’t remember things I did yesterday. That worries me more than not remembering something 20 years ago. There’s nothing you can do. They’ve put me on tablets. I don’t feel it working though. I don’t feel I’ve improved at all. I don’t feel in any shape or form like I am demented – I’m not staggering around. I’ve never worried about it. It’s other people who noticed it… my wife has probably noticed it more than me.”
Prowse was cast in the iconic role for his 6ft 7in height and played the Sith Lord from 1977 to 1983. The former body builder maintained a film and TV career that spanned 50 years, with this 5 year stretch being the proverbial peak. With the recent release of the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, David acknowledges the unlikely nature he would be asked to appear stating, “I would have loved to have been involved. Of course, Vader got killed off and there was no way back.”
