Warning: The following story may contain some potential Rogue One spoilers.
One of the biggest questions hovering over Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the role of Mads Mikkelsen. Given Mikkelsen’s history, the obvious first guess is “he’s totally the villain,” but apparently that’s not the case. A couple of months back it was rumored he was actually playing the father of Felicity Jones’ lead character Jyn Erso, and those rumors have now been confirmed.
Today during an interview with Sky News, Mikkelsen let slip that he is, in fact, Jyn Erso’s dear old dad. Here’s what Mikkelsen said when pushed for “just a little bit” of info about his Rogue One role…
“I read the script, and it was very beautiful, and there’s this lovely, young, strong woman, and I play her…father. That was too much, I’m sorry.”
That’s okay, Mads, we forgive you.
For those who didn’t read our previous story on the subject, rumor is Mikkelsen plays a scientist named Galen who helps design the Death Star. Stricken with guilt over becoming a literal destroyer of worlds, Mikkelsen’s character defects and teams up with his daughter to destroy his creation. Of course, given Star Wars‘ history of not-so-great dads, there’s still a good chance Mikkelsen is the secret villain after all.
We’ll find out for sure when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters Dec. 6.
