Marvel loves them some superhero team-ups, even if those superheroes are more gritty than most. Once Marvel gets their Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist series established, the plan is to have their Netflix heroes join up for the crossover miniseries The Defenders. But what kind of threat could bring the Netflix four together as an official team? How about the Devil himself?
Yup, according to a new rumor from Screen Geek, Mephisto, Marvel’s version of the greatest villain of them all, may serve as the big bad for The Defenders…
“Marvel is talking about setting Mephisto as the prime antagonist for The Defenders. Some may say that this villain wouldn’t fit the TV shows but that’s why they’re incorporating Iron Fist – to set up the supernatural element.”
Jessica Jones‘ Kilgrave also had some supernatural elements to him, and there’s talk Netflix may pursue Ghost Rider, Blade and Moon Knight series in the future, so The Defenders taking on Mephisto isn’t necessarily that out there. Still, the Devil is a pretty stiff challenge to face, and most of the Defenders deal with things in pretty down-to-Earth ways. Are they just going to punch and kick the Devil back to hell?
What do you think of the Mephisto rumors? Think him being the villain of The Defenders seems likely? Who would you like to see Daredevil and his pals go up against?
The Defenders is expected to hit Netflix sometime in 2017.
