There are a lot of big, ambitious Minecraft projects out there, but perhaps none are quite so huge and exquisitely detailed as WesterosCraft, a version of Game of Thrones’ Westeros being built block by block by hundreds of dedicated Minecraft players. The project first surfaced back in 2013, but work has continued steadily since then, and the result is one amazingly detailed Minecraft world.
You wouldn’t usually call Minecraft a particularly pretty game, but some of the vistas in WesterosCraft are downright beautiful. Here’s what project leader Jacob Granberry said about how the project is coming along…
“I would say the world is at around 70% completion. Since we last spoke, we’ve developed a custom launcher for the game that comes packed with our WesterosBlocks mod which includes over 50 new custom blocks and textures specifically made for our server. So, we completely repainted our map with new textures, and some of our old builds we are building over bigger, better, and more realistic. That Kings Landing render from a few years ago? Yea, we are remaking that entire city again.”
Sometimes I regret that I don’t really have the time to get into Minecraft, but on the other hand, it’s probably for the best.
