The case was made recently for J. Cole to step back into the game and stake his claim to the rap crown, but Drake might be the first guy to lap him before that happens. After having one of the albums of 2017 in what could be considered a relatively “down” year, the Toronto superstar looks poised to drop new music sooner than later. We heard three snippets and an incomplete leak in the span of a week from Christmas 2017 to January 2nd, and then radio silence – aside from IG photos of him in the studio.

Last night though, Drake decided to treat patrons of a private pop-up party at Memphis’ Love nightclub with a preview of what he has to come, and one person caught a little footage. The snippet isn’t even an appetizer, but it’s enough to glean that it’s another trap burner in which Drake rues that the music industry is “cutthroat” and reminds us that he’s “only rockin’ namebrand” – as if anyone thought otherwise.
For the most part, the tracks that have leaked have showcased him with the drawling, sing-songy delivery that’s all the rage – though his “Family Feud” freestyle on Lil Wayne’s Dedication 6 showcases he can get in his bag of lyrical tricks whenever he’s ready.
