Either Young Thug realized how ridiculous being called “Young Thug” was or the Atlanta rapper is gunning for a “Longest Rap Name Ever” record. In a new interview with Rap Radar podcast, 300 Entertainment head honcho Lyor Cohen revealed his cross-dressing artist known as Young Thug will be going by a new name because evolution, growth and all that good stuff.
“Young Thug is not going to be Young Thug anymore,” Cohen said. “His new name is going to be ‘No My Name Is Jeffery.’ That’s his new name.” Thugger Thugger’s birth name is actually Jeffery Lamar Williams so at least his government’s in there somewhere. Cohen explained that the name change was “important” and urged others to start calling Thug by his new moniker.
“The reality is, when you see this commercial (announcing Jeffery), you’re all going to understand what we do here at 300. Because it’s powerful images of what makes someone “Young Thug” and what the evolution and how someone is Jeffery. It’s a circular thing, it’s important. ‘No, My Name is Jeffery’ is on its way and please respect us to actually segue and utilize his name going forward because it’s important.” I guess, but it’s such a mouthful!
No My Name Is Jeffery’s new mixtape, Jeffery, drops later this week.
