It all makes sense now. Thor and The Hulk (aka Bruce Banner) weren’t in Captain America: Civil War because they were busy making their own movie. Thor: Ragnarok is coming soon so let’s get to the bottom of exactly what it was our Norse mythological figure and giant, angry green dude pals have been getting up to.
It seems that Ragnarok, per Norse mythology, consisted of a catastrophe that claimed Thor’s life, as well as the lives of several other Norse gods. Marvel’s Kevin Feige isn’t letting too much out of the bag regarding Thor’s new flick — his first standalone since 2013’s The Dark World — but did go so far as to say that this cataclysmic event will play a role in setting up the next two Avengers movies, which will focus on The Infinity War.
In addition to Mark Ruffalo getting in on the act as Banner/Hulk, there will be some notable new faces in Ragnarok, including Creed’s Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, straight off the set of Independence Day: Resurgence, Star Trek medical professional in residence Karl Urban and, classing up the joint, Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett.
Not returning for this go-around is Natalie Portman, whose Jane Foster will be absent. But Anthony Hopkins will be back, as will Idris Elba and, as the nefarious Loki, Tom Hiddleston, who told The Daily Beast, “Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years. I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.” Makes sense — this will be Hiddleston’s fourth go-around as Loki (don’t forget, he was the primary villain in the original Avengers). Sooner or later, it’s time to move on.
Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi of Flight of the Conchords-fame, so it’s a safe bet the movie will have a solid sense of humor. Get a load of the video above for all you need to know in advance of the movie’s Nov. 3, 2017 release.
