A Horrifying Accident On The ‘Blade Runner 2’ Set Leaves One Dead

A ton of work goes into the production of each and every film that is released, with much of the movie magic happening because of the unsung heroes in the industry. For a film with a very set aesthetic like Blade Runner, the sequel has big shoes to step into, and recapturing the look and feel of the cyberpunk classic is paramount for the success of Blade Runner 2.

The recreation of that aesthetic means immaculately-detailed sets, and an incident involving one of the sets has led to a terrible accident in Hungary, says The Hollywood Reporter. While dismantling one of the sets for Blade Runner 2 in Budapest a part of overhead construction platform caved in onto a construction worker. The local studio where it happened, Origo Studios, released a statement explaining the incident.

“The worker was underneath a platform, upon which the set was constructed, when it suddenly collapsed. The cause of the accident is not yet known.”

Production had wrapped at the studio, with Blade Runner 2 moving on to the village of Etyek in Hungary where they were filming at the time of the accident, at Korda Studios.

Now is as good of a time as ever to remember that more than just the actors, directors and producers are responsible for making the films that we all enjoy and consume on a regular basis.
