I think we can all agree that going to the gym is the worst. The sweaty machines, the boring monotony of it all, the time commitment — it all blends together into a hellish experience that can haunt your entire day. Because just the thought that you still have to go the gym when you clock out at 5 is a general life ruiner. And let’s face it, you can only spend so many hours of your life watching House Hunters on a treadmill without going absolutely insane. Too much exposure and you can end up naked on an elliptical, tearing out your hair, and bellowing, “You can change the paint color any time– you horrible polo wearing monster!!” at every screen within a 50 foot radius. We’ve all been there.
Which is why many Americans don’t get any exercise at all. We work hard all day and the last thing we want to do when we get home is change into workout clothes, get back into our cars, and drive across town to the gym. It’s easier to simply sink into the couch, crack a cold one, and order a large pepperoni pizza to eat alone. Much easier.
But while it may feel great to cut your gym membership card in half in the moment (and set it on fire and bury the ashes under an old tree that keeps all your secrets), avoiding exercise in the long term will inevitably make you feel more sluggish and less happy while lowering your self esteem. Because as much as we hate the gym, no one is arguing that the benefits of exercise aren’t super, super important. So if your New Year’s resolution to get healthier seems like a million years and a hundred pizzas behind you at this point, don’t give up hope. There are tons of small easy changes you can make to up your fitness game (without committing to two hours in the gym every day).
In the above video, truTV’s Upscale with Prentice Penny shares tips on how to sneak exercise into your day without rewriting your entire lifestyle. Before you know it, these creative, sneaky calorie burners will up your fitness game and get you looking and feeling your best. All you have to do is incorporate a little extra movement into your routine, and suddenly people are stopping you on the street to ask you if you’re a model (and not the kind that say that just to distract you so their crime partner can steal the wallet out of your purse — fool us once…).
So maybe you won’t be running in a marathon anytime soon, but with these simple tips you’ll look so fit that everyone will think you could…if you wanted to. Point being: You can look great, feel fantastic, and still have plenty of time to relax. Living the dream has never been this simple.
