For decades, McDonald’s was the place to get fast food breakfast. If you found yourself awake early enough to get it (sometimes it was difficult), there was nothing better than an Egg McMuffin, a hash brown, and one of those tiny orange juice cups with the tinfoil lid. The restaurant chain started serving breakfast in 1972 and since then, every other major fast food chain has jumped on the breakfast bandwagon. Stop in anywhere from Dunkin’ Donuts to Burger King to Taco Bell and you can get your pre-lunch fix.
But for years one place you couldn’t get breakfast was the original location of beloved burger chain Shake Shack. That is, until now. Watch out, Ronald: Shake Shack is coming for you!
If you’ve flown out of (or into) JFK (or visited its various transit locations) in the early morning hours, there’s a good chance you’ve already been lucky enough to try one of Shake Shack’s breakfast items. That location has been serving breakfast sandwiches and other morning favorites since 2014. But, for some reason, Shake Shack waited until now to launch a breakfast menu at the original restaurant in Madison Square Park.
The chain officially announced in a press release that it would begin serving breakfast on May 22nd from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
“We’re thrilled to finally bring breakfast to the Madison Square Park Shack, and doing it with our friends at Union Square Hospitality Group makes it even more special,” Mark Rosati, Culinary Director at Shake Shack said in a press release.
The same sandwiches you munched on before your early morning flight to Chicago or Los Angeles will be available at the original location. Choose from Sausage, Egg N’ Cheese, Bacon, Egg N’ Cheese, and Egg N’ Cheese. The sandwiches consist of cage free eggs, American cheese on a toasted potato bun. The sausage sandwich comes with all-natural pork sausage and the bacon sandwich is made with Applewood smoked bacon. For those customers who like their breakfast more sweet than savory, Shake Shack is offering “The Daily Provisions Seasonal Coffee Cake.” Only available at the Madison Square location, it’s a sour cream coffee cake with a seasonal fruit and an oat and cornmeal crumble.
That’s not the only sweet item on the breakfast menu. They will also be offering the “Shack Apple Turnover” which is eerily similar to a popular dessert item from another popular burger chain that rhymes with crickmonalds. Hey, if it works for them, it will definitely work for Shake Shack. Plus, it’s not like you can trademark the delicious combination of flaky crust, warm apples and cinnamon.
Shake Shack isn’t skimping on the coffee offerings either, with a large selection of drinks featuring Stumptown Coffee Roasters. Plus, to celebrate the introduction of the breakfast menu, the restaurant will be giving away free 16 ounce coffee with the purchase of any breakfast menu item from May 22nd until May 28th.
If you’re planning on going, you might as well just get in line right after you read this. If there’s one thing New Yorkers love, it’s waiting in line for food.
