Check Out The First Skydive From A Goodyear Blimp In Over Half A Century

Sports. It’s why we’re here, reading this article. Incredible acts of human athleticism celebrated and shared. Now, sports are so pervasive in our culture, and the launch of the new season of football, both college and the NFL, is such a spectacle, the only thing to do is get meta. To mark the start of a new season of impressive athletics, an impressive feat of strength must be accomplished. That happened at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee.

The “Battle at Bristol” between the University of Tennessee and Virginia Tech marks the first football game ever played inside a NASCAR track, and this special occasion was punctuated by skydivers hurling themselves from the Goodyear Blimp — the first time such a feat was accomplished in over half a century.

The U.S. Air Force Wings of Blue Skydive Unit dove 2,600 feet, which marks the first skydive from a Goodyear Blimp since the 1965. It’s an appropriate show of grandeur in this larger-than-life sports world. Rather than shoot off a cannon, hold a stuffy ceremony or put on a highlight reel, these people are jumping from zeppelins to start the season off right.

It’s something that should be happen before every game.
