UFC’s womens divisions are a little thin at times, with bantamweight and strawweight comprising two of the three divisions with the fewest number of fighters on the roster. UFC is looking to bolster their 115 pound ranks slightly with their newest signing, undefeated Invicta FC star Alexa Grasso.
Grasso, a boxer-type with very slick hands, a good clinch game, and a slight grappling deficiency, made her Invicta debut in 2014, winning a decision over Ashley Cummins. Alexa followed that with a first round TKO over Alida Gray to close out 2014, then had one of the best strawweight fights of all time against MIZUKI in 2015. Unfortunately, a string of injuries kept Grasso out of the cage until July 2016, when she bloodied up Jodie Esquibel en route to a unanimous decision. There was hopes of a title fight against Angie “Overkill” Hill, in what could have been another fantastic bout, but UFC struck first.
Grasso will make her UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter Latin America season 3 finale in November. She’s set to face Heather Jo Clark, who welcomed the undefeated Karolina Kowalkiewicz to the promotion in May, and now the cookie princess is likely next in line for a title shot. Not to overlook Clark, but with an impressive win and UFC’s desire to expand into Mexico, Grasso could be poised to become a star.
