The feud between Floyd Mayweather and Ronda Rousey continues to be both very bizarre and mildly amusing. In an interview with ESPN on Thursday night, Mayweather was asked to comment on the UFC star, someone he didn’t know existed a few short months ago.
And, in fairness to Floyd, he took the high road initially, saying Rousey deserved the ESPY for “Best Fighter.” After all, he’s won “six or seven.”
“A while back, I didn’t know who Ronda Rousey was, so I’m pretty sure she got upset. I want to say congratulations to Ronda Rousey and the UFC. You guys have done a tremendous job, and I’ve won probably six or seven ESPYS for Fighter of the Year. And I truly believe she deserves it. Congratulations to Ronda Rousey.”
But things took a turn from there. Mayweather was asked to address Ronda’s burn at the ESPYs: “I wonder how Floyd feels being beaten by a woman for once. I’d like you to pretend you don’t know who I am now.”
You could see the gears spinning in Floyd’s head during the question. How was he going to respond to Rousey’s verbal submission? Money, of course. It always comes back to money with Mayweather.
“I just say that, I’ve yet to see any MMA fighter or other boxer make over $300 million in 36 minutes. You know when she can do that? Call me.”
We’ll never see these two in a ring for obvious reasons, but I think most fight fans would love to see Floyd get out of one of Rousey’s armbars.
