It was an action-packed night of fights featuring many familiar names as upstart promotion Venator FC held its third event in Milan, Italy. Much of the press leading up to the event was dominated by troubled fighter and former MTV reality show host Jason “Mayhem” Miller, but past his participation on the card there was a decent amount of star power to go around with several other former UFC fighters competing. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
Emil Weber Meek KOs Rousimar Palhares (Round 1, 0:45)
A lot of people were expecting Rousimar Palhares to do what Rousimar Palhares does, which is grab a hold of his opponent’s leg and twist it until it comes apart like a drumstick. Instead, Weber caught him during his takedown attempt with devastating elbows to the side of the head and followed up with a barrage of strikes that forced the ref to stop the fight.
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou KOs Matt Hamill (Round 1, 0:37)

It was nearly 10 years ago that Sokoudjou smashed onto the MMA scene with a shocking knockout of top light heavyweight fighter Ricardo Arona at PRIDE 34. Since then he’s had a lot of ups and downs, but he proves here that he can still knock a dude out…provided that dude is from the same era of fighting as him. This is former TUF contestant Hamill’s second loss since coming out of retirement in 2015.
Mattia Schiavolin subs Mayhem Miller (Round 2, 3:10)

Miller had a lot of people wondering how serious he was about this fight after turning up over 24 pounds overweight. However, when the cage door closed he put in a decent performance considering it was his first outing since 2012. But it wasn’t enough to come out ahead of Schiavolin, who used Mayhem’s moment of bob and weave showmanship to slap on a rear naked choke that finished the fight in the second round.
Karl Amoussou KOs Giovanni Melillo (Round 1, 4:51)

A great head kick KO from Amoussou here, who lands his fifth finish in a row (and fourth in the first round) since leaving Bellator in 2014.
Cody McKenzie subs Valeriu Mircea (Round 2, 1:30)

McKenze, a lanky underdog and TUF veteran, proves he can still submit people with a slick guillotine (or McKenzie-tine as he calls them) even though everyone knows that’s what he’s going for. Good for him!
